About TEN/MET
Tanzania Education Network/Mtandao wa Elimu Tanzania (TEN/MET) is a national network of 255 CSO members working in the education sector since its inception in 1999. Initially, it was registered as a company limited by guarantee in 2005 but later in 2015, it was registered as an NGO under the NGOs Act No.24, 2002. The Network now operates under its most recent 2015 constitution as amended in 2021. The Network's main objective is to coordinate and strengthen education, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs, including international NGOs, to advocate for equitable access to quality education and articulate the concerns of local communities with an informed collective voice, and influence policies for all learners in Mainland Tanzania.
As a non-state actor in the education sector in Tanzania Mainland, TEN/MET serves a diverse range of beneficiaries, broadly categorized into direct and indirect beneficiaries. The direct beneficiaries of TEN/MET’s work include children, students, youth, teachers, and communities who are directly engaged in and impacted by education interventions. The indirect beneficiaries include parents and guardians, Local Government Authorities (LGAs), the Central Government, research institutions, and civil society organizations (CSOs), all of whom benefit from strengthened education systems and improved learning outcomes.
To effectively deliver on its mandate, TEN/MET works collaboratively with a wide network of stakeholders. These include, but are not limited to, students, teachers, media institutions, government departments, development partners, private sector organizations, UN agencies, and other civil society associations. Through these partnerships, TEN/MET strengthens collective action, drives inclusive dialogue, and advances shared goals for quality and equitable education in Tanzania.
Organizational Mandate
TEN/MET is Tanzania’s largest civil society education network, bringing together 255+ member organizations working nationwide to advance inclusive, equitable, and quality education. Through coordinated, evidence-based advocacy and community action, TEN/MET reaches millions of learners, teachers, parents, and community members every year.
By linking grassroots realities with national decision-making, TEN/MET ensures that donor investments translate into sustainable, system-wide change improving education outcomes for the most marginalized children and leaving no learner behind.
